USA Swimming Sectionals, Indianapolis: Day One Finals Complete
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, March 27. AT the IU Natatorium at IUPUI, some of the Midwest's best took to the pool to open the USA Swimming Sectionals in Indy.
Women's Meet
Eva Lehtonen, 16, of the Oakland Live Y'ers dominated the 800 free with a top time of 8:48.76, while Northern Kentucky Clipper Claire Dickmann, 17, took second in 9:02.38. Berkeley Aquatic's Lauren Ross, 16, rounded out the top three in 9:06.30.
Katharine Anton, 14, of Cedar Rapids dipped under 2:17 with a winning time of 2:16.84. Kate McNeilis, 15, of Westerville nabbed second in 2:17.05, while Allie Day finished third in 2:17.40.
Danielle Jansen, 16, of Mason Manta Rays touched out Lisa Nathanson, 17, of Des Moines, 26.64 to 26.67, for the 50 free title, while Emily Bos, 16, of West Michigan finished third in 26.70.
Results of the 200 breast were unavailable at press time.
Men's Meet
Justin Carter, 16, of Clovis grabbed the 200 back title in 2:04.10, while Austin Mudd of Southeastern (2:05.96) and Aaron Buchanan, 16, of Dayton Raiders (2:06.08) completed the top three in the event.
Bryan Chovanec of Indiana University won the 50 free in 23.51 over Ryan McHugh, who finished second in 23.71. Mike Payne of Seymour Swimming finished third in 23.88.
On the other end of the spectrum, Dane Vanderkaay, 17, of the Oakland Live Y'ers grabbed the 1500 free title in 16:08.27, while Andy Mueller of Ultimate Speed placed second in 16:11.39. Will Lawley, 17, of the Cincinnati Marlins finished third in 16:27.62.
Mike Alexandrov of Wildcat Aquatics cruised in the 200 breast when he clocked a time of 2:16.56 to win the event. Alec Haley of Indiana University took second in 2:20.22, while Spencer Hewes of the Mason Manta Rays finished third in 2:20.78.
