Host Brent Rutemiller opens the show by breaking down each aquatic sport's standards for qualifying for the Olympics. Later, he talks with Todd Schmitz, the head age group coach of the Colorado Stars, where a 12-year-old swimmer, Missy Franklin, just broke national age group records that were more than 20 years old. Schmitz talks about the ways coaches transition an age group swimmer to the senior level.
Swimming World senior writer John Lohn offers his analysis of the women's 200 breaststroke race leading up to Beijing. He equated Leisel Jones' dominance in the event to Michael Phelps in the 200 fly, and offers a few contenders for silver and bronze.
In For the Record, ISHOF CEO Bruce Wigo talks with Alan Ford in Sarasota, Fla. Ford was the man who broke Johnny Weismuller's 19-year-old record in the 100 yard freestyle in 1943. Ford was also the first man to go under 50 seconds in the event. Ford also talks about meeting Weismuller as a child in Panama and swimming with Bob Kiphuth at Yale University.
