Kwok Turns Triple Play In Dual Meet Win

From www.usc.edu – The USC men’s and women’s swim teams both swam away with victories this past weekend at the McDonald’s Swim Stadium. The Women of Troy defeated UC Santa Barbara, 250-45, and Nevada-Reno, 211-88, and the men outscored Santa Barbara, 213-85.

One of the highlights of the meet came from junior Mark Kwok, who swam to three individual victories, with all of those victories being NCAA consideration times. Kwok, who had just returned from the World Championships in Perth, Australia, won the 200 freestyle (1:37.53), the 500 freestyle (4:25.09) and the 400 IM (3:55.26).

“I had a lot of admiration for the swimmers that just got back from Australia,” head coach Mark Schubert said. “Mark Kwok’s performance in those three events is probably the best triple I’ve seen done at a dual meet, and he just got back.”

“I was really surprised to swim fast,” Kwok said. “I just got back from Australia and the World Championships two days ago, so I’m still kind of off on the time zone. I thought since I had rested and tapered that I could still turn around and come back and have some good swims and try and make NCAAs.”
