Top Times Clocked at USA Swimming’s Long Course Invitational

ATLANTA, Georgia, December 4. THE day after swimmers lit up the Georgia Tech pool at the USA Short Course Championships in Atlanta, Ga., many of those same swimmers returned for USA Swimming's Long Course Invitational on Sunday.

Club Wolverine's Michael Phelps and Wildcat's Mike Alexandrov led the assembled competitors with a pair of event triumphs.

Phelps clocked a winning time in the 100 fly (53.24) as well as the 200 free (1:49.79), while Alexandrov touched first in the 100 breast (1:01.63) and 200 breast (2:13.19).

Other individual winners in the men's meet included JCC Sailfish's Pat Mellors in the 400 IM (4:25.63), Daytona Beach's Ryan Lochte in the 100 back (53.56), Rose Bowl's Jason Lezak in the 100 free (48.80), Club Wolverine's Erik Vendt in the 400 free (3:52.55), Reno's Erik Scalise in the 200 IM (2:06.72), Mecklenburg's Doug Van Wie in the 200 back (1:59.90), Cullen Jones, swimming unattached in the 50 free (22.33), UC Irvine's Eddie Erazo in the 200 fly (2:00.57) and George Mason's Tom Koucheravy in the 1500 free (15:56.56).

Different swimmers won each of the events in the women's races.

Victories came from El Dorado's Caitlin Leverenz in the 400 IM (4:45.18), Lakeside's Rachel Komisarz in the 100 fly (57.60), Trojan's Jessica Hardy in the 100 breast (1:08.39), Coral Springs' Leila Vaziri in the 100 back (1:02.31), Athens Bulldog Kara Lynn Joyce in the 100 free (54.78), Club Wolverine's Katie Carroll in the 400 free (4:15.67), Club Wolverine's Kaitlin Sandeno in the 200 IM (2:14.27), Stephanie Proud, swimming unattached, in the 200 back (2:15.43), North Coast's Jessica Schmitt in the 200 breast (2:34.01), Estonia's Triin Aljand in the 50 free (25.82), SMU's Jennifer Blackman in the 200 free (2:01.78), Team Bruin's Kim Vandenberg in the 200 fly (2:10.21) and Mission Viejo's Chloe Sutton in the 800 free (8:52.50).
