Israeli Summer Nationals Get Going With Women’s 100 Breast National Record by Nastia Korotkov

JERUSALEM, Israel, August 7. NASTIA Korotkov provided the top performance of the first two days of swimming at the Israeli Summer National Championships when she set an Israeli record in the women's 100 breaststroke.

In the race, she clocked a time of 1:11.54, while 15-year-old Yulia Benech finished well behind with a second-place 1:12.79. In the men's 100 breast, Tom Beeri won in 1:03.37, while a pair of United States-based swimmers Mickey Malul, now swimming for Georgia Tech after transferring from Kentucky, and Daniel Malnick, a sophomore-to-be at Ohio State, took second and third in 1:04.25 and 1:04.98.

Max Jaben of Missouri won the men's 800 free in 8:08.38, while Michael Dimitriev, formerly of SMU, placed second in 8:18.25.

Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or, who trains at The Bolles School in Florida, defended his title in the 400 free with a time of 3:55.23, while Jaben took second in 3:56.08 and Arizona State's Gal Nevo finished third in 3:59.83.

Ehud Segal grabbed the men's 200 back title in 2:00.77, while Ohio State freshman Itai Chammah finished second in 2:02.64. Dannit Kama took home the women's 200 back crown in 2:19.30.

In the 50 fly events, Anna Gostomelski won the women's title in 27.21 over 14-year-old Anat Zimin (27.43), while Michigan-based swimming Alon Mandel claimed the men's crown in 24.87.
