Borja Iradier Leads Day Three of Spanish Championships With National Record

BARCELONA, Spain, July 26. BORJA Iradier, who had already owned the Spanish national record in the men's 50 breast, dropped the time twice more throughout the third day of long course meter swimming at the Spanish National Championships.

Iradier opened the day with a record time of 28.29 in prelims. This crushed his previous standard of 28.42 set on July 16, 2006. He followed that up with a winning time of 28.18. That effort moved him into the top 20 in the world this year.

One other Spanish record fell as the team of Jose Javier Cabanas Alberca (26.72), David Munoz Gonzalez (28.22), Javier Soriano Machado (23.91) and Javier Noriega Sanz (21.46) set the 200 medley relay record with a time of 1:40.31. That performance knocked more than a second off the 1:41.81 set on C.N. Metropole on Aug. 5, 2005.

A few meet records also went by the wayside throughout the evening. Ignacio Fernandez Ordonez clocked a time of 8:08.02 in the men's 800 freestyle, while Margarita Dominguez Cabezas did the same in the women's 1500 free with a readout of 17:02.56. Finally, the men's 800 freestyle relay of Albert Medrano Arjona, Eloi Saumell Montserrat, Alejandro Sanchez Garcia and Olaf Wildeboar Faber clocked a 7:26.50.

Other individual titles went to Javier Nunez Molano in the men's 200 fly (2:01.69), Mireia Belmonte Garcia in the women's 200 fly (2:12.55), Aschwin Wildeboar Faber in the men's 100 back (55.53), Anna Zhivanevskaya in the women's 100 back (1:02.50) and Javiera Salcedo in the women's 50 breast (33.18).
