2000 FINA World Cup IX: World Record For Krayzelburg
Berlin, Germany – The question of the day was: will two time world champion Lenny Krayzelburg set the second world record on 200m back and will he get the prize car from the pool deck? But just a few minutes after the beginning of the meet the audience (more than 2500 spectators!) had a new hero. Australians Ian Thorpe set a new World Record on 200 m free – 1.41,10, having broke his own time of 1.42.54 (set at the beginning of the year in Sydney). In the morning heats he won easily with 1.45.92 and appeared in the final very motivated. “I didn’t expect to set a world record today, – he considered – I found that this morning I wasn’t concentrated. With regard to the Olympic Games I hope I’ll be able to maintain this high level. But still I don’t feel in the role of being invincible. I feel really great in this new swimming pool and I would like to stay longer in Berlin”.
